Cookies: What they Are and Why They Are Used
Cookies are a way for us and third parties to recognise you, they are small text files stored directly on your device web browser that can collect, hold and receive information. Cookies can be used across many devices including your mobile phone, laptop, tablet etc. and can be used for storing and receiving identifiers, IP address, website activity and preferences, such as font, zoom language etc. so that you don’t need to enter these each time you visit.
It is important to note that the term cookie refers to multiple technologies. The same functions performed by cookies can also be achieved via SDKs, pixels, plug-ins, beacons etc. When we use the term cookie, in this policy or any other communications, we refer not just to cookies, but all similar technologies performing the same function.
There are two types of cookies, session cookies, and persistent cookies.
Session cookies are used to identify a particular visit to our services and expire after a short period of time, or when you close your browser, ending the session. When the session ends, these cookies are automatically deleted.
Persistent cookies are cookies that remain on your device for a set duration and are not automatically deleted at the end of a browsing session, such as to support a ‘remember me’ request. The duration at which we retain such cookies is determined by the function of the cookie.
